My Team

Manage your direct reports, conduct check-ins, and track their development.

👥 For Managers Only

The "My Team" feature is only available if you have direct reports. If you don't see this option in your navigation, it means you don't currently manage anyone in the system.

Viewing Your Team

The My Team page shows all your direct reports in one place:

  • Team Member Cards: Each person displays their name, email, and role
  • Profile Picture: Avatar or initials for quick identification
  • Quick Actions: Buttons to start a check-in or view their full profile

This dashboard gives you an at-a-glance view of everyone you manage, making it easy to stay on top of your team's development.

Starting a Check-in

To conduct a 1:1 check-in with a team member:

  1. Click the "Start Check-in" button on their team card
  2. The check-in form opens with the team member pre-selected
  3. Add notes about what you discussed in the meeting
  4. Select a target/goal role if you're setting development goals
  5. Assess their skill levels for each required skill
  6. Click "Create Check-in" to save

✨ Best Practice: Conduct check-ins during or immediately after your 1:1 meeting while the conversation is fresh. This ensures accurate skill assessments and comprehensive notes.

Using the Check-in Form

The check-in form has several sections:

  • Team Member: Pre-filled when you click from the team page
  • Previous Notes: Shows notes from their last check-in for reference
  • Notes: Free-form text area for this meeting's discussion points
  • Target Role: Optional - select the role they're working toward
  • Skills Assessment: Rate their current level for each skill in the target role

On mobile, the form adapts to stack vertically, making it easy to complete check-ins on any device.

Assessing Skills

When assessing skills during a check-in:

  • You only need to assess skills related to the selected target role
  • Click the number buttons (1-7 typically) to set their current level
  • Each skill shows its description to help you assess accurately
  • The level range varies by skill - some might be 1-5, others 1-7
  • You can skip skills if you haven't observed them yet

💡 Tip: Skill assessments should be based on demonstrated ability, not potential. Look for evidence in their recent work and achievements.

Viewing Team Member Profiles

Click "View Check-ins" or the team member's name to see:

  • Their Skills: All assessed skills with current levels
  • Goal Progress: How close they are to meeting their target role requirements
  • Check-in History: All previous 1:1s you've conducted
  • Celebration Banner: If they've met all requirements for their goal role

This view helps you track individual development and prepare for upcoming 1:1s.

Managing Team Development

Use the My Team page to:

  • Keep regular 1:1s scheduled and documented
  • Track each person's progress toward their goals
  • Identify skill gaps across your team
  • Maintain a historical record of development conversations
  • Celebrate achievements when team members reach their goal roles

🎯 Management Tip: Regular check-ins (monthly or quarterly) help team members feel supported and ensure skills development stays on track. Set a recurring calendar reminder to keep check-ins consistent!

Common Questions

Who appears in My Team?

Only your direct reports appear here. The organizational hierarchy determines who you manage. Contact your admin if someone is missing or shouldn't be there.

Do I have to set a target role for every check-in?

No, target roles are optional. However, setting a goal role helps team members understand what they're working toward and makes progress tracking more meaningful.

Can team members see the notes I write?

Yes, check-in notes are visible to the team member. Write them as you would any professional development conversation - constructive, specific, and helpful.

What if I made a mistake in a check-in?

Contact your organization administrator - they can help correct check-in records or skill assessments if needed.
